Whitby Chamber of Commerce calls on Province to push for better broadband
Whitby, ON, February 16, 2018 – The Whitby Chamber of Commerce (WCC) will be in Hamilton, Ontario this weekend gathering support from chambers of commerce from across Ontario to call on the Ontario government to develop a comprehensive broadband strategy.
The WCC is one of five chambers co-sponsoring a policy resolution submitted by the Sarnia Lambton Chamber of Commerce for this weekend’s Ontario Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting in Hamilton, taking place from April 26 to 29.
The resolution outlines a number of actions the government should include in a provincial broadband strategy, including establishing speed and reliability targets that align with the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission’s (CRTC) targets, re-evaluating those targets and ensuring international comparability, actively seeking out funding for last mile connectivity, recognizing the unique needs of different regions and communities, advancing e-commerce and e-service literacy for all and amending provincial building code standards.
“Having affordable access to high-speed broadband internet in every corner of Ontario is absolutely necessary for everyone to participate in today’s digital economy,” said Natalie Prychitko, CEO of the Whitby Chamber of Commerce. “By taking a leadership role on this issue, we’re bringing this issue to the forefront. We believe that by doing so, we will be part of a strategy that propels our region forward.”
